inform you
that Government have
no
intention at present of either sanctioning the heavy outlay you propose nor of having
a
road made on that line until the questions of the reclamation of the Wong-nei-chong valley, of the site of a Keep Place & Armoury for the Colony; and of the position of the future Government House shall all be decided, as they may probably will exercise a great influence eventually laying out that quarter
of the Colony.
In the
mean time His
Excellency
the Governor in Council is of opinion that
a very practicable carriage road may be made at a comparatively trifling
